Give New Life to Old Equipment

Posted on August 30, 2010 · Leave a Comment

I have a confession…I’m considering taking up tennis.  I love running…I love lifting weights…but tennis has always intrigued me! It’s great cardio exercise and a fantastic opportunity to enjoy the upcoming fall afternoons.  Before I get involved in the Charlotte Tennis Association, I’m going to take one-on-one lessons so that I can hit the court with more know-how and hopefully a more developed skill level than my current skill level (or the lack there of).

Taking up a new sport? Buy used equipment!

First things first…I need a tennis racquet that isn’t made of heavy aluminum.  Technology and racquets have evolved since I was given my first tennis racquet.  Older tennis racquets are commonly made of aluminum, while today’s rackets are often made of graphite.  Therefore, a new graphite racquet  is on my list of wants but NOT in my budget.

I’ve decided that a used graphite racquet will be just as efficient as a new one considering my amateur skill level, and there is plenty of used tennis equipment out there just waiting to be recycled.  This week I’m on a mission to visit local thrift stores and maybe even Play It Again Sports in hopes of acquiring a gently used racquet for a way lower cost than a new one.

Are you considering taking up a new sport?  Have you considered buying used equipment?

Saturday in Charlotte

Posted on August 27, 2010 · Leave a Comment

This is the first time in weeks that I don’t have any plans for the weekend. Girls night would be fun, but maybe I can even spend some time in Charlotte. I visited the Charlotttes Got Alot website, and found a few things that could keep me busy tomorrow:

Skyline of Charlotte, North Carolina

What's your favorite thing to do in the city?

  • Charlotte Knights Vs. Durham Bulls
  • Kannapolis Intimidators Vs. Lexington Legends
  • Light Up This City (Block Party)
  • Panthers Vs. Titans (preseason)
  • Unique Spirits Tasting
  • Music Series at the Fountain Plaza
  • Summer Saturdays Concerts at Whitewater Center
  • A little history on the Charlotte NC Tours
  • Sharks! @ Discovery Place 3D Theatre

How do you like to spend your weekends? Sleeping in? Going out with friends to the latest movie? Or maybe cleaning?

I hope I can enjoy the city life this weekend…
